A lot has happened since the last blog entry! November and December were FULL of exciting activities and time out of school....
In November, Kameron Carden, one of our Listening and Spoken Language Progam (LSLP)teachers, presented at the ASHA Annual Convention in Chicago, Illinois, about the LSLP program here at ASD/AIDB! Presenting with her were Chris Gustus and Betsy Brooks from the Moog Center for Deaf Education. By all accounts, Kameron, along with Chris and Betsy, did an awesome job and really generated a lot of interest about the program here. The name of the presentation was, "Establishing a Spoken Language Program at a State School for the Deaf: A Collaborative Approach." The ladies shared the rationale for including this program at a state school. They also gave a report of the student's progress and opportunities that were provided for them. Many people at the conference talked to Kameron personally, and people from all around the country have been contacting Kameron since she returned home to ask more questions about the program and how it was started! Great job, Kameron!!
We ended November with a week at home with our families to celebrate Thanksgiving! We definitely have much to be thankful for here at ASD! When we returned, it was a busy, busy three weeks until the Christmas break. The Woods students went to the tree farm to get a Christmas tree...the Woods students and the 1st -4th grade students went to the Oxford Mall to shop and see Santa...Star Students had a pizza party and gave presentations....ASD Scholars chosen for November and December went on a surprise trip to get treats at McDonald's....students who met their AR goals went to Chuck E. Cheese....and the 4th, 5th and 6th grade students put on a performance of "The Christmas Cobwebs" for our student body. (I have a few CDs of the program, parents, so let me know if you are interested!) AND...if that's not enough...all of the students enjoyed a Christmas party with treats and a visit from Santa who gave out gifts. Wow! We needed a two week rest after all of that!
We are so glad to be back at ASD in the New Year! I'll be back soon to tell you what's happening around the ASD Elementary Department!!
