Wow....so hard to believe it is already November and Thanksgiving is just around the corner!! We have been so BUSY since school started! The preschool and kindergarten classes in the Woods building have been to the zoo and to the Pumpkin Patch! What fun!! The preschool classes in the Listening and Spoken Language Program have been to the Old Baker Farm. The 4th-6th grade classes went to Rickwood Caverns, and the 1st-6th grade classes went to Disney on Ice! Field trips are absolutely the BEST, most fun way to learn!!
This year we have a new recognition program for our 1st-6th grade students called, "ASD Elementary Scholars." Criteria for being chosen are completing schoolwork and homework as directed, paying attention in class, and taking responsibility for one's own learning. Students chosen for this honor are recognized in a student assembly and given a button and a certificate. They later go with the director on a surprise trip. The Scholars for September and October went to Sonic for an icy treat as part of their reward for being good Scholars!! So far this year the following students have been recognized as Scholars: Miles Gonzalez, Timirra Spencer, Gabrielle Brown, Jessika Rawls, Jessica Morris, Whittnye Maldonado, TQ Robinson, Juan Vasquez, Darin Thomas, Andarius Fitten, Nelly Leguisamo, Arial Shields, Tia Prince, Hunter Weaver, Aaisha Nance, Elizabeth Gillum, Jeremiah Cooper, Lila Kochie, Juan Vasquez, and Maria Edmondson. The surprise trip for the month of November is....well....it's a surprise!!
We are continuing to recognize our Star Students this year as well. Students are chosen based on scholarship and good behavior. The students chosen for the honor receive a button and a certificate in a student assembly. They also present on a topic of their choice to the students in a second assembly. They have a pizza party where the student may chose two friends to enjoy their favorite pizza and a soft drink. So far this year Christina Cooper and Nelly Leguisamo were recognized for September and Joshua Kirk and Arial Shields were recognized for October.
It will soon begin to look a lot like Christmas around the Elementary Department! The 4th-6th grade students are responsible for the Christmas program this year. The program will be presented on December 19th at 1:00 p.m. in the McFarlane Auditorium. The title of the program is "The Christmas Cobwebs". It is a really great story, and you will not want to miss it!!
