In my 8th grade physical science classes, we've been learning about waves. I wanted to do an activity that would allow the students to see a wave in action, to help them understand sound and light a little better. The kids used duct tape, skewers, and orange slice candy to make a wave machine. When disturbed, the candy & skewers move in a very nice wave motion. Students made different kinds of waves - big, small, fast, and slow. The wave machine also shows how an echo happens - the wave bounces off when it hits a surface, and comes back to the starting point.
